Taught at KU since 2009, KU is home to an award-winning Hindi Language program. With beginning through advanced levels of instruction available, Hindi language study is a great compliment to a wide range of courses and disciplines. Whether you are interested in international/area studies, political science, business or even computer science, having knowledge of Hindi can be a skill that sets you apart from the pack on the job market. Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world (after Mandarin and English.)

Students interested in pursuing the South Asian Culture certificate are highly encouraged to take Hindi to compliment studies on South Asia at KU. If you have questions about the Hindi program or about language placement testing please contact the Hindi language coordinator, Patrica Sabarwal at psabarwal@ku.edu

Pictured below: Held annually on Yale’s campus, the Hindi debate competition is for speakers of all levels. In the Spring 2017 competition KU was represented by Daniel Theisen, a senior from Overland Park in neurobiology, and Sanjay Vijay Parashar, senior from Leawood in cellular biology. Patrica Sabarwal, Hindi instructor at KU, and Amanpreet Sawhney, visiting Fulbright Scholar from India, served as chaperones. Theisen, a third-year student studying Hindi at KU, placed first in the “Non-Native, Non-Heritage” category.  Read full article here.
