Undergraduate Italian

The Department of French & Italian offers a comprehensive undergraduate program in Italian language, literature, and culture, leading to the BA in the Italian Option or to the Minor in Italian. The program has approximately 12 undergraduate majors and approximately 20 minors. Italian offers courses in basic grammar, composition and conversation, literature and culture. The Italian civilization of Italian 335-336 sequence is also offered via ITV at the Edwards Campus in Kansas City. Our summer and semester-long study abroad programs in Florence and Rome offer a wide variety of levels to students at all stages of linguistic competence. The major prepares students for a variety of careers in teaching or in graduate studies, as well as in fields such as interpreting, international business, art, art history, and travel. We invite you to make an advising appointment with one of our faculty members to discuss how Italian will enrich your time at KU and beyond.

Students with past course work/experience in Italian should contact the Italian Language Coordinator in the Department of French and Italian to determine which Italian course is appropriate for his or her level.

Students needing proficiency examinations for study abroad programs, the Dean's Certificate in International Business, or graduate school requirements should also contact the Italian language Coordinator, to arrange for the necessary testing.
