Summary

Robert M. Timm is a faculty member in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Lawrence, Kansas. He has published more than 150 technical papers, two books, and a number of Web-based publications on various aspects of mammalogy, parasites of mammals, and host–parasite coevolution. His primary research is on tropical mammals, especially their systematics and conservation. He has been conducting research on the systematics, ecology, parasites, and conservation of tropical mammals for more than 40 years. He has taught field courses in the tropics for many years, serving as a regular faculty member with the Organization for Tropical Studies field courses in Costa Rica, for both the undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. In addition, he has served as course coordinator for both a regular graduate-level course as well as a specialty course on Neotropical bats. He assisted in establishing a new undergraduate-level field course in South Africa, and subsequently was an invited faculty member for two of these undergraduate-level field courses. He was awarded University of Kansas Provost's Award for Leadership in International Education in 2004, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Graduate Mentor Award in 2007. He served as the President of the American Society of Mammalogists as well as Vice President, and held a number of editorial roles, as well as chaired several committees and is a member of other committees. He is a Research Associate at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, and the Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock. He is an active advisor for both graduate and undergraduate students. On the KU campus, he serves on the Library Senate. He has conducted faunal surveys in numerous localities in the tropics. Much of this data is used in systematic studies as well as for conservation plans. In addition to scientific presentations, he is a regular public outreach speaker.
